Intended as the surf trip of a lifetime and a moment for some father/son bonding, a holiday to the lesser-known Indonesian island Sumba in 2009, serendipitously brought about the idea for an innovative, ethical and healthy business concept.
Sydney’s very own surf and travel enthusiast, Tony Lemarseny, was with his son on a holiday in Indonesia when Lachy, shortly into the trip, fell ill. Lachy was offered fresh coconut water by the locals and, as an interim measure, his dad encouraged him to drink up.
As his son began to regain wellness, and not withstanding his own long-held beliefs in the benefits of remedies sourced in nature, Lemarseny felt, by turn, incredibly grateful and inspired. The coconut water’s natural electrolytes rehydrated Lachy allowing his body to return to a state of health.
Lemarseny returned to Sydney with a vision to share this astonishing source of natural immunity with his family and friends. It wasn’t long before the whole family turned to coconut water as a daily supplement.
In Sydney of 2010, Nakula Organic was born and started simply with the launch of Nakula Organic Coconut Water. Praised for its pure and unadulterated taste, it came as no surprise to Lemarseny and his family that the reaction was so positive:
'We work really closely with our suppliers to quality control the taste and consistency of our product. We want people to continue to benefit from having Nakula in their households, so it is our priority to ensure that when people purchase the brand they are consistently having the same positive experience’.
As the family became more and more interested in what coconut products could offer in the way of health, they worked tirelessly to develop the other products that now form the range – Nakula Virgin Coconut Oil, Nakula Coconut Cream, Nakula Coconut Milk and Nakula Harvest Coconut Milk Yoghurt.
Now it is 8th year of operation, Nakula is still family owned and operated by Tony (CEO), Chloe (General Manager) and Lachy (Operations Manager).
