our STORY

While annual surf trips to Indonesia have long been a Lemarseny family tradition, it was a trip in 2009 to the lesser-known island of Sumba (known for its incredible surf spots) that, some may say, serendipitously, triggered the idea for Nakula.

Nakula’s founder & CEO, Tony Lemarseny, was with son, Lachy, on the trip so many surf enthusiasts dream of - great waves under blue skies. However, shortly into the trip, Lachy fell ill. Offered fresh coconut water by the locals as an interim measure for what was steadily becoming severe hydration, Tony encouraged him to drink up. As a firm believer in the power of more natural remedies, Tony was not surprised as Lachy started to regain wellness - the naturally healing benefits of the coconut water were working.

Instantly inspired, a brand was born. Upon returning to Sydney, Tony set to work creating the foundations of Nakula. Joined by daughter, Chloe Leary and later by son, Lachy, they launched Nakula Organic Coconut Water into the Australian market in 2010. A delicious product backed by ethical practices and strong family values.

Praised for its pure and unadulterated taste as well as its health benefits, it came as no surprise to the family team that the reaction was one of resounding positivity: ‘We work really closely with our suppliers to quality control the taste and consistency of our product. We want people to continue to benefit from having Nakula in their households, so it is our priority to ensure that when people purchase our products they are consistently having the same positive experience’.

Fast forward to the present and a lot has happened over the course of close to a decade in business. Within this time, the coconut product range has expanded rapidly to offer Nakula Coconut Milk Yoghurt, Nakula Coconut Milk Mousse, Nakula Organic Coconut Cream and Nakula Organic Coconut Milk.

The most recent launch of new products exemplifies the families focus and passion for the plant based food sector. The Nakula Plant Based range now also includes three delicious Almond & Coconut Milk Yoghurts, as well as the new Coconut Milk Sour Cream and Coconut Milk Thickened Cream.

While producing the highest quality plant based food products has been at the heart and soul of Nakula’s story, the family have always had a focus on giving back: particularly to communities in disadvantaged areas of Asia. With lifelong relationships to prove their dedication to this ideal, Nakula is a proud partner of the Planet Water Foundation - an inspiring initiative that provides clean drinking water towers to communities across South East Asia.
